First off, this is not dubstep. What it is, though, is taking one of the key sounds of dubstep and the mechanics of it and using it the way I tend to use things. This is all mixed into a system of loops that I have created and layered over one-another in ways which produce new combinations of familiar things. On top of all of this is a randomization of tempo literally every measure after we have established some sort of sense of space and what tools are involved. It also helps that pretty much every layer except for one has parameters which are tied to what the tempo is. It gets as high as 280 BPM in some spots and as low as 5 BPM in others. If you want to play along with where the pulse is, listen for the series of piano chords as they are purposely the most stable and routine element but they also have long strands of silence between when they occur in the timeline.
I'm uncertain where the joke ends and the serious art which I feel strongly about begins. If nothing else, this is a new area for me because it's usually the case that I am trying to push something with a rather dark starting point right up to the edge of absurdity without making it a farce. This time I started with something intended to be a farce and, I think, gave it some sort of reason to actually be paid attention to - even if only for academic reasons.
